2017 Chapelle de Potensac, Medoc, Bordeaux, France
A tricky vintage in Bordeaux but still offering some good value, medium bodied wines for early drinking and this second wine from another well-regarded Cru Bourgeois, Château Potensac, is very much in this style. Elegant and classic with real finesse, lovely perfumed fruit, gentle tannins and a fresh finish.
2019 Les Tours de Beaumont, Haut-Medoc, Bordeaux, France
The second wine of renowned Cru Bourgeois Château Beaumont, situated in the heart of the Médoc with over 100 hectares of sustainably managed vineyards on classic gravel terroir. 2019 was a good vintage of proper yet approachable clarets and this has gloriously intense cassis fruit and soft spice with smooth well-judged tannins.
2019 Moulin de La Lagune, Haut-Medoc, Bordeaux, France
A second wine with real pedigree, produced from the young vines of 3rd Classed Growth Château La Lagune in the Haut-Médoc, farmed biodynamically and forming part of a project to develop a rich and diverse ecosystem within the estate. The ripe, intensely aromatic dark fruit has been tamed by 12 months aging in French oak barrels (40% new), tannins are supple, and the finish is long with a balancing and savoury freshness.
2016 Seigneurs d’Aiguilhe, Castillon, Bordeaux, France
From one of the best Châteaux in the Côtes de Castillon, owned by Bordeaux royalty Stephan von Neipperg, this very approachable second wine has sweet cigar box and ripe autumn berries on the nose with more brambles on the palate and a subtle smokiness that lingers on the smooth, long-lasting finish.
